Introducing the Greubel Forsey Balancier 3
Greubel Forsey spent nearly 20 years crafting a completely new, more wearable, and distinctive timepiece. To achieve this, the workshop had to start from scratch. How to create a watch of moderate diameter capable of housing the workshop's in-house movement? How to reduce the price of the watch while maintaining 100% hand-finishing? The Balancier 3 perfectly answers all these questions.
First and foremost, style. From the outset, this watch is characterized by its three striking bridges: the first houses the mainspring barrel, the second the large balance wheel, and the third, and most notably, connects the seconds subdial and supports the hour and minute hands. All these bridges feature Greubel Forsey's signature hand-finishing: curved polished surfaces, polished chamfers, and hand-polished screws. Each bridge incorporates sharp inner angles and rounded contours, making the hand-finishing particularly intricate—details sure to appeal to collectors.

This timepiece belongs to the Convexe collection. The Balancier 3 features the iconic case, thinner than ever before. Its lugs are screwless – a first for Greubel Forsey. The Convexe case boasts a curved design on both the front and back, setting it apart in haute horlogerie. The watch is comfortable to wear, conforming naturally to the wrist's curves. The double arcs on the dial gradually taper towards the strap, creating a beautifully three-dimensional shape, which the movement utilizes to unfold itself.
Secondly, the movement itself is also crucial. It lends the watch a dynamic, modern style and provides impeccable timekeeping accuracy, while simultaneously making it Greubel Forsey's most affordable piece. To achieve this, Greubel Forsey once again fully leverages the expertise of its team. The design philosophy is to create a clean, modern style that allows the wearer to appreciate the exquisite finishing of each component of the movement. Adhering to this philosophy, the workshop focuses on the technical aspects of the watch: from the power source and escapement to the mainspring barrel and large balance wheel, every element embodies exquisite control over time.
Two series-connected high-speed rotating mainspring barrels (rotating once every 3.2 hours) are clearly visible and adorned with a unique rotating pattern, a signature design of the Convexe collection. Together, they provide a chronograph power reserve of up to 3 days. The watch can still run for several hours, but perhaps not with the precision stated by Greubel Forsey. For the first time, the Convexe collection displays the power reserve on the case back.
On the other side of the dial, the large balance wheel—"Balancier" (from which the watch's name originates)—located between 4 and 6 o'clock, is cleverly integrated into the overall design and balanced by six gold averaging screws. With the workshop's signature 12.6mm diameter, it is one of the most magnificent balance wheels in contemporary haute horlogerie. Its oscillation echoes the small seconds subdial at 8 o'clock. The fixed indicator of the small seconds subdial is actually a rotating, hand-satin-brushed disc below, indicating the passage of seconds.
Finally, let's examine the exquisite finishing. The wide bridge supporting the hour and minute hands is the best example. It features a curved, three-dimensional, skeletonized design with multiple layers, numerous sharp inner angles, and a delicate arm connecting to the small seconds hand—a true masterpiece. Its extremely complex geometry perfectly complements the hand-finishing. This technique is also applied to the mainspring barrel bridge and balance wheel bridge, both sides meticulously hand-polished to achieve the same convex effect as the case.
